In cold but bright conditions at Tockington we had 24 starters in our Duathlon today.

In the short course event, Thomas Miller (25:39) and Philippa Crocker (31:12) were unopposed in their categories, but both had the satisfaction of establishing a new course record for the distance.

On the longer course, Nathan Irwin went out hard from the start and stayed in front to finish first in 35:32. Alex Miller was second in 37:16 with Kieron Brosnan, new to Duathlon, finishing third in 38:30. In all we had 6 athletes finish in under 40 minutes.

In the female category we had a very close finish, Sharon Coultart leading from the bike leg with Kate Hoffen (a regular medalist in our Eastville Park runs) closing fast on the final run. In the end, Sharon stayed ahead to finish first in 41:23 with Kate taking 2nd place by just one second in 41:24. Angela Simpson was third in 44:13 despite having to roll in from the bike leg on a flat tyre.

Steve Thomas has shared a great video taken from the event field on YouTube - thanks Steve! https://youtu.be/plA17AB_X-Y

There is also a gallery at https://www.smugmug.com/app/organize/Bristol/2025/Tockington-swimbikerun...

Please spread the word about our forthcoming races - Eastville Park series begins on 6th May, details at https://uk.srichinmoyraces.org/races/bristol and our next multisport is on August 3rd with a choice of SwimBikeRun-MINI Triathlon or 2 distance options for Duathlon - https://www.britishtriathlon.org/events/Swim-Bike-Run-Mini-Bristol_16236.

Thanks everyone for making these races happen,

I was not expecting more than a handful of athletes to attend today after the biblical levels of rain overnight, but I was happy to be proved wrong as we had 21 starters in the end and everyone got round the bike course unscathed (and although there was plenty of water on the course, it wasn't actually raining).

With the conditions as they were I was also not expecting the Open Category course record of 32:58 to get toppled, but both Louis Ansfield (our winner with the new record time of 30:04) and Ric Hill (second in 31:11) managed to get under that time. Third place went to John Poole who clocked an excellent 33:10.

In the women's category, Sharon Coultart and Karen Tang were pretty much level after the bike leg, but a quick transition and a strong final run-leg saw Sharon claim first place in 40:37 while Karen was only half a minute behind, finishing second in 41:10. Third place on the podium went to Lottie Sims who finished in a time of 42:34.

Heavy rain on our rural-lane course often means more likelihood of punctures and this time round it was Mark Wilkinson who was unlucky, though fortunately he was still able to finish in a decent time.

Thanks to the marshals and others who managed to snap a few pics of the race which are now in our gallery at https://ukgallery.srichinmoyraces.org/Bristol/2024/Autumn-SwimBikeRun-Mini-Duathlon/i-CGpHxsH.

Thanks to everyone who made the race happen, hope to see you at our 3 Duathlons, Try-a-Tri Triathlon or Eastville Park runs next year!

Despite a damp start, it was a day on which records tumbled in all categories. On the short course, Robin Drewett knocked nearly two minutes off his previous time to come second in 28:18, while Christopher Clarke clocked 26:26 to take first place and a new Course Record.

Out on the 2-lap Long Course, Mark Wilkinson put in another great performance to come first in another new record, 32:58, eclipsing the previous best which he set in April by over a minute. John Poole stormed both run sections and actually crossed the line first, but picked up a drafting penalty which left him a close second in 33:24. Fourth overall, and third in the Open category, was Michael Sandick in 36:42.

The women's Long Course race was won by Tamsin Chick (who finished third overall) in yet another Course Record of 35:53, a good 4 minutes ahead of Alex Brown's April time that was the previous best on the course. Sharon Coultart was runner up again, this time a minute quicker than in her previous race with a time of 41:00, and third place went to Susannah Learoyd-Smith who finished her first ever Duathlon in 44:09.

Thanks again to everyone who came along and made a great day of it. Our next race is our biggest of the year, the 3x1 Mile Relay in Eastville Park which welcomes club teams, veteran teams, junior teams, family teams - you name it! You can sign up a team of three for as little as 6 pounds (9 pounds for unaffiliated runners) and a free ice cream at the finish is included. Online entries for the relay are at Fabian4 - https://www.fabian4.co.uk/default.aspx?EventID=3705

Our next Duathlon is on September 8th, a more traditional time in the calendar for run/bike/run, so we're hoping for a bigger race.  https://uk.srichinmoyraces.org/self-transcendence-go-tri-bike-run-tockington-manor-school. Who knows, with dry roads we might see those records beaten again?

Our first swimbikerun event saw 18 athletes take on the challenge of the new course - in cold but dry & still conditions.

In the 3k/10k/1k Long Course, Mark Wilkinson was first home in a new course record time of 34:04 - he was made to work hard for victory out on the loop by 2nd place John Poole who was less than a minute behind with 34:56 and third place Andrew Dutton (35:37).

First place in the women's category went to  Alex Brown, whose 39:43 is now the women's course record. Sharon Coultart was second with 42:37 and third place went to Sara Vogan (49:32).

Short-course honours went to Robin Drewett who now holds the course record for the 1k/5k/1k event - 30:27. I hope Robin won't mind me mentioning that he qualfies for the Veterans 9 category in Triathlon, aged 80+, so that's a very handy time to set as a benchmark for others to challenge.

Full results are attached and there is a race gallery (new photos are being added as I receive them) at https://ukgallery.srichinmoyraces.org/Bristol/2024. If you have any pics you'd like to share just send them to me. Hope you enjoyed the race, next we have 2 mile runs in Eastville Park starting May 7th, a Try-a-Tri on 27th May (entries still available) and our next Duathlon in late June.

Thanks for taking part!

Thanks to all our Duathletes for taking part in our 27th and final GO TRI Duathlon.

Next year, we again plan to hold 3 Duathlons and a Triathlon at Tockington under the new SwimBikeRun-MINI event scheme. I'll email details to everyone who has done a recent GO TRI event as soon as they are finalised. It won't be drastically different, just some adjustment to the length of the run segments, a choice of 2 distance options on the day and a change to the bike course (multiple laps of a 5k circuit, instead of one long loop). We're also planning to move the finish line to the top of the field, so you can cheer finishers over the line while enjoying a coffee on the terrace.

Conditions were tricky today - not in the usual way (wind or rain) but as a result of high humidity and a recently-rained-on road surface. Despite this, there were some great times as you can see from the provisional results below. Fastest in the open category once again was Mark Wilkinson who flew round in 41.03. A very close race among the runners-up in that category saw Neil Rowse take 2nd in 45.32 and Craig Williams 3rd in 45.48. Second place in the race overall and first in the Female category was Marie Monaghan in an impressive 44.11. Again, the runner-up places were only a few seconds apart, with Sharon Coultart 2nd in 50.03 and Sarah Bennett 3rd in 50.31 Trophies to our two winners will be posted out next week.

There will also be a race gallery (just some amateur / phone photos) at https://ukgallery.srichinmoyraces.org/Bristol/2023 - as with the final result, the photos may not be online until Monday and may appear a few at a time - the final collection should include a few shots of the run, a few shots of the early section of the ride and I think I managed to catch almost everyone coming out of the gateway (would have been every one of you, if I hadn't been interrupted by someone trying to close the road mid-race to work on a water main).

Thanks again for being part of our Duathlon and hope to see you next year.

27 athletes completed our Duathlon on Sunday, with conditions pleasantly warm or uncomfortably hot depending on your point of view - certainly the hard ground made run times faster than in our Spring Duathlon.

In the Female category, first place went to Melissa Mann in a time of 48:42, with Caroline Brooks (51:01) and Sarah Bennett (52:25) completing the podium places. In the Open category, a tight race for first was decided on the final run, with Alex Tedd recording an impressive 38:22 and Mark Wilkinson a close second with another sub-40 time, 39:46. Third place went to Peter Wheddon in 42:46. The age range in our race was 17 to 82 and it looks as though experience held the key to success, as 2nd place Mark was in the 55+ category, 3rd place Peter was in the 65+ and all 3 women on the podium were 50+ age-groupers. This makes those finish times doubly impressive.

Several riders were held up by a tractor & trailer and a car causing an obstruction on the narrow section over the low ground between Olveston and Pilning, but fortunately everyone was able to get around the situation and carry on to the finish.

Thanks to Emma and Rasmivan for their race photos and to everyone who has sent in their helpful feedback on the race route.

Our next events are a 2-miler in Eastville Park on 27th June, our 3 x 1 mile Team Relay on the same course on 11th July (free ice cream to all runners) and our final GO TRI Duathlon of the season on 10th September.

Results attached for Sunday's soggy duathlon - although the sky was pretty dry, the ground was quite the opposite, so the run and bike courses both had to be taken more slowly than usual.

Well done to all who took part and great to see everyone finish the race despite the tricky conditions.

In the open category it was another win for Chris Mills, just a week after competing in the European championships at Venice-Caorle (proving that while GO TRI is aimed at beginners, athletes with a bit of a pedigree in the sport are also very welcome). Nathan Irwin and Steward Downie, another two athletes who know the course well, took 2nd and 3rd.

In the female category it was a mix of old friends and new faces, with first place going to Penny Guess, Alex Brown 2nd and Laura Neale 3rd.

As well as the attached results we have a small gallery of photos at https://ukgallery.srichinmoyraces.org/Bristol/2023/Sri-Chinmoy-GO-TRI-Duathlon-Tockington/

Our next race at Tockington is the GO TRI triathlon on 29th May which is now sold out, so if you know anyone who wants to take part please ask them to email me to get on the waiting list. There are bound to be some places released nearer the time so we will take late entries/substitutions. Our summer running series in Eastville Park starts on 9th May and details are here - https://uk.srichinmoyraces.org/races/bristol

Thanks again to everyone who supported our race, from winner to Lanterne Rouge and of course all the volunteers.

There were 31 athletes in Sunday's GO TRI Duathlon at Tockington.

Conditions were pretty good - cool and dry without too much breeze - but some disruption to the route (roadworks) and the usual post-rain gravel on some of the turns meant it wasn't totally ideal. Nevertheless there were some fast times including a first place under 40 minutes (Chris Mills - 39.21). 2nd place went to veteran Mark Wilkinson (40.11), with Kit McColl 3rd (42.53). In the women's results, first overall was Marie Monaghan in a time of 44.23, with Gwenno Goode from Barry second in 48.18 and a 3rd place for Sarah Bennet in 50.15.

Results are now online (see link attached) and I'm very happy to say that guest race photographer Nick Tuftnell has captured the event with a great gallery of photos on Flickr -  much appreciated Nick!  Thanks are also due to Lucinda from North Bristol Tri who stepped in as a marshal at the last minute so the race could go ahead.

To those of you racing on our course for the first time I hope you enjoyed the simplicity of GO TRI and the scenic race route. We'll be fixing up our series for next year soon and hope to have three Duathlons as well as a GO TRI Triathlon all at the same venue in 2023.

It was a small turnout again (seems to be the pattern as we all adjust to racing again post-lockdown) but definitely a case of quality not quantity, with everyone finishing under, or pretty much bang on, the hour. With blustery winds and 2 sections of gravel to negotiate as a result of road re-surfacing, that's an impressive set of times. Fastest in the men's line up were Chris Mills with an excellent winning time of 38:58, followed by Mark Wilkinson (40:20) and Pete Lloyd (42:22). We had a new winner in the womens's race, Odette Collett, who was racing on this course for the first time, with Sarah Bennett (50:20) and Victoria Brooke (50:41) in second and third.

There were excellent times all the way down the field, and we had what I believe is our biggest ever age range among the competitors, with youth represented by Chloe Shephard (16) and experience by Robin Drewett (81).

Attached are the results and a link to a photo gallery from the race.

Thanks to everyone who took part and as always to our selfless team of marshals who put the race on - cheers everyone & see you in September for the next one.

It was our lowest ever turnout for the GO TRI event at Tockington, but that seems to be down to a combination of covid-uncertainty, sub-zero temperatures overnight and an unlucky prevalence of injuries hitting people just at the start of their racing season.

Fortunately for the 21 brave souls who did make it to the start line, everyone got round without incident and the sun came out for pretty much the whole race.

There were good times across the board (especially considering the need to ride cautiously on the shaded sections of the course which were still frosty) and worthy winners in Alex Brown (49:54) and Matt Washburn (43:14). Trophies will be on their way to the winners soon - congratulations to both.

Our next Tockington event is the GO TRI Triathlon on June 2nd and our Eastville Park running events begin on 10th May, so hope to see you (and some warmer weather) soon.

Results are in the attached PDF and photos will appear soon in our Race Gallery.

Cool, still and dry conditions meant fast times for our regulars and a great start to multisport for our first timers. Ric Hill's winning time for the men was one of our quickest ever, while Tamsin Chick, not for the first time, took first place in the women's race. Full results are attached and pics are online in our gallery at https://ukgallery.srichinmoyraces.org/Bristol/2021/GO-TRI-Duathlon-at-Tockington-12-September-2021/

Hoping to welcome you all back to Tockington and Eastville for our Multisport and Running series next year.

The rain held off, but racing conditions were still not ideal at our first race of 2021, with block headwinds on the back half of the bike course and numerous other events jostling for the same stretches of road. My sincere apologies to those of you who got delayed by the event traffic and in particular to Paul Taylor who got misdirected by the British Cycling signs - hopefully this kind of event congestion has only occurred as a result of events being delayed by Covid-19 and future years will see everything spread out across the summer as per usual.   Despite these challenges we had 34 finishers out of 34 starters and some excellent times at the top of the results. Alice Thomson, in her first duathlon, was first in the women's race with 47:21, while Alex Brown and Sally Sims took second and third. In the men's race we saw a top 3 all finishing in under 40 minutes which is impressive on such a breezy day - Joe Pritchard took top spot with 37:58, Chris Mills taking second place ahead of Rob Sims in third.   Results are in the attached PDF and we hope to have photos online in our Bristol Races Gallery - http://ukgallery.srichinmoyraces.org/Bristol/   Thanks to everyone for taking part and making an event happen in this challenging and uncertain summer!

It was great to be hosting a race again after such a long time, and thanks are due to British Triathlon for insuring & permitting the event through the GO TRI initiative, Tockington Manor School for letting us use their facilities, the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team for marshalling and of course The Athletes who came and took part.

Turnout was lower than usual at 35 starters, but in these uncertain times that was actually above our expectations. We had a really broad range of ages and abilities as usual, which is what GO TRI is all about. It was a mix of familiar faces and first timers too.

In the women's field of 15 the honours went to Tamsin Chick who came first in 47:10, Sally Sims who came second in 48:05 and Megan Edwards, third with a time of 48:35.

The men's race was probably our best ever in terms of quality, with four athletes breaking the 40 minute barrier. First place went to Adam Whittaker who smashed the previous course record by more than 40 seconds, finishing in 36:33. Chris Mills came second in 38:38 while only 6 seconds separated third and fourth place - Robert Sims (39:13) and Wayne Williams (39:19).

This race was very different to normal, with a time-trial start meaning everyone was competing against the clock without any clear idea of where they were in terms of position until everyone had finished and the final calculations had all been done. They call this format "the race of truth" though, so I hope everyone was happy with their result after racing against themselves. Thanks again to our competitors who all co-operated with the distancing and other health measures so that the event could go smoothly.

We missed having a public reading of the results and applauding our winners, but we do have small trophies for the first man and first woman so these will be delivered soon.

Photos will appear in our gallery (https://ukgallery.srichinmoyraces.org/ - scroll down to the Bristol page) in the next day or two and the full provisional results are attached.

We hope to hold a full series of 4 GO TRI events in 2021 so please keep an eye on our website for updates.

45 aspiring duathletes gathered at the startline today in excellent racing conditions. Winds were light enough for a few at the sharp end of the race to sport full disk wheels, while other athletes took on the challenge with mountain bikes & tourers. Unfortunately, roadworks in the first couple of KMs of the bike course meant we had to contend with a set of traffic lights (next to Duckingham Palace, for those who know the route) and this brought a large element of luck into the equation - some breezed through on green while others had to stick a foot down and wait for a minute for the lights to change. Times were still impressive with Chris Mills winning once again in 39.31 and 2nd and 3rd places going to Wayne Williams (40.44) and Robert Sims (41.27). The women's race was won by Sarah Gillies (48.30) ahead of Sally Sims (49.17) and Emma Ulmann (49.27). The attached full results are provisional so please get in touch if you notice any errors or omissions. Photos are at https://ukgallery.srichinmoyraces.org/Bristol/2019/GO-TRI-Duathlon-September-2019/ . Thanks to Tockington Manor School for hosting our race series in 2019 - see you all next year for more of the same!

With a stiff breeze blowing over the levels we weren't expecting super-fast times at today's GO TRI but all our participants were on good form, with quick finishes right through the field and our first finisher only a few seconds off the course record. We don't have many athletes going under 40 minutes on this course but today Wayne Williams (39.51), Alex Tedd (39.21) and overall winner Joe Prichard (37.19) all broke through that barrier, with Joe narrowly missing out on Matt Fratesi's record of 37.15. In the women's race less than 2 minutes separated the top 3, with Katie Jones finishing in 49.49, second place Lucy Gardner in 48.52 and overall winner Sarah Gillies in 48.05. Lucia Gaetani came in with an overall time of 79 minutes but don't be fooled - she did some serious extra mileage on the bike course!

Thanks to everyone who took part and to our team of only 6 marshals who made the whole event happen. Our next events are a 2 mile race this coming Tuesday (Eastville Park, Bristol, arrive by 7pm for 7.30 start) and our famous 3 x 1 mile relay two weeks later at the same venue. The relay has categories for clubs, unaffiliated runners (not club members), veteran teams (all 50+) and family teams (all 3 must be related) so if you can muster 3 runners to do one mile each, why not make up a team? There's a free ice cream for all finishers in that race too.

Our last GO TRI event is another Tockington Duathlon in September and there are still a handful of places available for online signup via the British Triathlon website.

We had no less than 45 starters at today's GO TRI event. I'm pleased to say that despite the cold and the headwinds we saw all 45 make it to the finish line! Wayne Williams and Dan Wixey battled it out for top spot in the men's race with Wayne eventually winning out to claim victory in 41.17. In the women's race Renske Bouwens overcame her late arrival at the race and zero warmup to finish first in 48.07 with Angela Young second and Anna Kusuak a close third. There were strong performances all the way through the field, with many athletes hitting their personal targets despite the conditions and several finishing their first ever multi-sport event. For a few, it was their first race of any description. Congratulations to all 45 athletes and we hope to welcome you back at our Aquathlon in April, our Triathlon in May or our future Tockington duathlons.

We had showers at the start but conditions cleared up to allow our 34 duathletes to take the rather technical course at high speed. Two came close to challenging our men's course record, which is exceptional on a damp road in a swirling breeze. Times were fast from first to last with everyone finishing in under an hour. First woman to finish was Rachel Burnside in 47.14, a couple of minutes ahead of her nearest challengers Lucy Gardner (2nd) and Ali Jones (3rd). In an impressive men's race Joe Pritchard comfortably beat his previous time on the course to record an excellent 37:35, with Lee Winter 2nd just 3 seconds behind him and Chris Mills coming third with 38:46. The attached results are provisional so please contact us if you have any queries. That's all for our Bristol races this season, the Sri Chinmoy races carry on in London & Edinburgh through the winter and also throughout the world from Mongolia to Macedonia, so do check out our race website if you go off on any international travels - there might be a race at your destination! Thanks and hope to see you next year - 2019 race dates should be finalised and online before the end of September.

A lower turnout than usual today but a high quality field and some lovely racing conditions - those who made it to Tockington were rewarded with a firm and freshly-mown sports field for the run and clear, sunlit roads for the ride.

Former winners triumphed in both categories with Chris Mills taking 1st place in the mens' race in a time of 39:51 and Kirstie Hallam (Almost Athletes - cheltenham) first woman to finish in 48:02.

Provisional results are attached, please let me know of any errors/queries asap as they will soon be uploaded to the GO TRI website.

Thanks to all the athletes and also all the marshals who made today's race happen.

Photos will be on our gallery page as soon as we can compile them from various cameras and phones!

After a cold start it blossomed into what felt like the first day of Spring, with 44 athletes taking advantage of the cool, calm & dry conditions to post some fast times. The top 3 were:

Women:

Kirstie Hallam (Almost Athletes) - 49.44, Becky Thomas (Tewkesbury Tri) - 51.36, Lisa Heal - 51.37

Men:

Joe Prichard - 39.16, Chris Mills - 40.28, Martyn Green - 40.46

Provisional results are in the attached file, please get in touch if any queries. As usual a photo gallery will be uploaded within 24 hours of the event to http://ukgallery.srichinmoyraces.org/Bristol/  - if anyone has any photos or video they are happy to share please email us a link and we'll get it on our gallery.

Next race is our Swim-Run at the end of April - another GO TRI event for which there are still a handful of places available.

Thanks to everyone who took part and to Alan Jones for coming along to marshal the Pilning junction - cheers!
