The UK Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team have been promoting sporting events in the UK since the late 1970s. Events include:
- 24 hour race in Tooting Bec London
- 100km race, in Edinburgh, Scotland
- Beginners triathlon
- 2 mile races / 10 km races
- Cycling time trials
Sri Chinmoy was a spiritual Teacher, who was also a keen runner and saw running as part of his philosophy of 'Self-Transcendence'.
“Running helps us considerably. Running is continuous motion. Because of our running, we feel that there is a goal — not only an outer goal but also an inner goal.”
Sri Chinmoy himself ran several marathons and a few ultra-marathons. His best time for the marathon was 3:55:07 in Toledo Ohio, 1979.
Run and Become
Run and Become was originally founded by Ongkar Tony Smith in 1983, (at the suggestion of Sri Chinmoy). It is currently managed by Shankara and Dipika Smith.
Run and Become is at the heart of the London, Edinburgh and Cardiff running communities, and has sponsored many of our local Sri Chinmoy A.C. events.
