The second race in the grand prix series, saw another good turnout, slightly warmer weather and a change in position at the top with Matthew Lock (Witney RR) (1st - 15.15) proving slightly quicker over the longer distance than last race winner Max Cunningham (Witney RR) (15.52) in 2nd place. 1st place lady was Jamie Garry 20.09 (Oxford City AC). Last week's winner Harriet Howard (Witney RR) was 2nd place in 20.33.

It is all to play for with the last race in the Grand Prix series in two weeks time

Note: If tied on points

  1. Most number of races
  2. Fastest time in 3 June race will be deciding factor.
  3.  Fastest time in 15 May Race (if needed)

(some GP positions are currently tied on points, but I will apply above criteria after 3rd races)

We had a good turnout of over 100 runners. It was an auspicious day with the 6th May marking the anniversary of Roger Bannister's first sub-four minute mile on the Iffley Track back in 1954. Earlier in the day, there had been a mass mile event in Oxford, and an invitational race at the Iffley Track where three runners managed to replicate the sub-four minute goal. We were not quite in that record breaking territory, but it was a good race, despite a sodden outfield after a winter's long rain.

Congratulations to all the trophy winners in the Grand Prix series.

A cooler day and spot of rain saw 63 runners take to the start line for the longest race in the Grand Prix series (4 miles). 1st-time entrant Graham Hope Kidlington RC finished 1st in a very good time of 21.27. 1st women was Lucy Shelton of Abingdon A.C in a time of 26.30.

  • Prizes for top 7 in each category
  • Runners who missed out on top 7, but completed all three races get a 'finisher pendant.'
  • Prizes will be given out at the final race of the season on 17 June (3 miles)
