Edinburgh - last Self Transcendence race of the summer

Wednesday 10 September 08 - 2 miles, the Meadows

In the last race of the Sri Chinmoy Self Transcendence summer series 74 runners had rainy conditions to contend with.   Edinburgh University Orienteering international, Scott Fraser led at the mile in 4.53 from HBT's Craig McBurney and Corstorphine's Tom Ferrington.   A good race was developing in the women's race with Edinburgh AC's Jenny McLean neck and neck with HBT's Sula Young, with her clubmate Claire Ward just a few yards back.   Fraser increased his lead to finish strongly in 9.53 ahead of McBurney (10.05) and Ferrington (10.10).   Young and McLean must have pushed each other all the way on the second lap as they approached the finish together, Young (11.14) just edged in front of McLean by a second with 1st MV50 Ken Rankin (11.15) a stride behind.   Keith Weston was first MV60 in 12.34 with Dundee Road Runner's Margaret Robertson first female vet 60 in 15.40.

SPECIAL MENTION to the ladies of the Army Wives jogging group, many of whom were competing in their first race.

As we finish another summer series (our 24th) we just want to thank you all for supporting our events.

SO ..... remember Runners are always Smilers ...... and we'll be back next summer for some more Self Transcendence!
