The weather smiled on our Try-a-Tri event and every single starter made it to the finish. Of the 41 athletes who started, 34 successfully completed their very first Triathlon. Well done you :)

A big thanks from me to all the athletes who came along with such enthusiasm to try a new race and to the volunteers who also travelled from far-flung outposts of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team to make a superb event crew.

Results are attached for those interested in their times - though for most it was a case of "completing rather than competing". The fastest times came from Isabella McNally and Toby Fyfe, who for now can proudly call themselves Course Record Holders as this is the first time a Tri has been held on the course. We do hope to be back next year with the same race at the same venue, but before that we have 2 Duathlons at Tockington and 3 great running events at Eastville Park - see our Bristol Races page for details.

The race gallery has been uploaded in full - the photos were taken as quick-fire bursts of images both on the finish line and after receiving medals, so you can pick and choose from several shots. I hope to upload a few videos of the swim and the finish too at some stage, mostly for the benefit of future competitors.

Best of luck with your next race, whatever and whenever that may be.

First Tri - coaching for your first Triathlon

Are you thinking of signing up to your first triathlon? ….. or have you done one before and wished you’d had a bit more structure to your preparation? Sri Chinmoy Tri Club are collaborating with a company who specialise in providing online coaching for newcomers to triathlon. For a small investment, they have put together simple, safe training plans that will help you prepare, complete and enjoy your first triathlon. This resource will remove all the concerns you have about how to structure your training properly and give you support with all those questions that inevitably crop up. First Tri provide step by step training programs that will build the required level of fitness, as well as provide you with video tutorials and a members Q and A area. There are 12 week training plans for GoTri / Super Sprint distances and Sprint distances that can be condensed to 10 weeks or expanded to 16, depending on how far away your event is. Click on the link here to view the First Tri options and please drop Sri Chinmoy Triathlon an email to let us know when you have signed up to ‘First Tri’. We will receive £10 for every sign up which helps us keep doing what we do at an affordable price.   http://first-tri.co.uk/triathlon-training-plans  We genuinely believe you will have more fun if you are properly prepared and feel relaxed about your first triathlon.

Sri Chinmoy Tri Club & SwimBikeRun

In 2022 we were thrilled to walk away with the British Triathlon award for best GO TRI event in the south west, and we've been part of the GO TRI initiative since it was first dreamt up years ago as being in some way the "Park Runs of triathlon". OK, they may not be free like the Park Runs but just like those popular weekend 5k runs, they encourage newcomers to have a go at a sport that can be life-transforming. As of 2023 the GO TRI scheme has been superseded by the bigger and better SwimBikeRun programme which features many different ways to get into multi-sport and triathlon.

Try-a-Tri Tips

For those who sign up to our Try-a-Tri the regular emails with tips and answers to the most frequent newbie-triathlete questions are by all accounts a big help in getting ready for their first race. We'll be uploading the Tips emails here for everyone to take a look and find out about the rules & kit requirements of SwimBikeRun-MINI events.
