Well, 27th May was certainly not what we expected. When an access problem meant holding a Triathlon was not possible, we had to quickly pivot to a Duathlon Format so that the 50+ athletes all in their kit and ready to go had a race to get stuck into. I want to thank everyone involved (athletes and volunteers) for making a decent day of it despite the disappointment with which it began. We'll be in touch soon with all our athletes to offer you some options.
Many of you have been in touch to say how much you enjoyed the Duathlon (run-bike-run) format, so if you want to do it again our Duathlon Dates for 2024 are 30 June and 8 September - you can enter here: https://uk.srichinmoyraces.org/self-transcendence-go-tri-bike-run-tockington-manor-school.
The hastily arranged race was a unique 0.6k run, 10k bike, 3k run affair and we saw some excellent, fast times in close-to-ideal conditions. In the open category it was a former winner and regular competitor from our GO TRI races, Alex Miller, who finished first in just a shade over half an hour. Andrew Dutton was second, around a minute behind, with Niall Drew in third. In contrast, the womens' category was won by Millie Eastaugh-Waring, in her first Duathlon, clocking 40:04 ahead of Chloe Shepherd (a very close second place). Tockington regular Sara Vogan completed the podium, placing third in a time of 42:10.
There is a gallery of stills and video clips at https://ukgallery.srichinmoyraces.org/Bristol/2024/Surprise-Duathlon-Try-a-Tri-2024 and we've done our best to get at least a medal photo, if not also some action shots, of every athlete. Full results are attached. Tophies to our two winners will be in the post next week - they just have to be re-engraved first....
