Sri Chinmoy Marathon Anniversary Races--Marathon, Half-Marathon, 4-person relay

Global virtual race

This free virtual race featuring three distance options honors Sri Chinmoy's strong contributions to the running community.

About the event

This global virtual race series honors the 42nd anniversary of Sri Chinmoy's first marathon: the 1979 Bidwell Classic in Chico, California. Runners from anywhere in the world are welcome to participate in one of the following events:

  • Marathon (26.2 miles)
  • Half-marathon (13.1 miles)
  • 4-person marathon relay (6.65 miles per leg; cumulative time is the marathon result)

All participants will run on a course of their own choosing, adhering to the applicable government regulations for safety and social distancing. For the relay option, team members do not have to be in the same location but do need to enter as a team. Global age-group results will be recorded and published.

The running can take place anytime between Feb. 27 and March 3. See entry link for more information.

Sri Chinmoy completed 22 marathons in his lifetime. In his first marathon, at the age of 47, he ran 4:31:34. Three weeks later, he completed the Toledo Marathon (Ohio) in 3:55. Today the marathon team that he created organizes hundreds of races worldwide to encourage joy, self-transcendence and community through sport.

Sri Chinmoy said, "Running helps us considerably. Running is continuous motion. Because of our running, we feel that there is a goal--not only an outer goal but also an inner goal."
