Self Transcendence 2 mile race, The Meadows, Edinburgh Wednesday 16 September 2015

There was a good turnout for the final Self Transcendence race of the summer.  Victory went to Corstorphine’s Donald Macaulay in 9.41 from Patryk Gierjatowitz, HBT in 9.47 with 3rd place going to Alex Berman  in 10.15 with Nick Wolverson (EAC) 4th with 10.26.   Shona McIntosh, HBT was 1st female and 8th place overall in 10.52 with Kirstian MacRuary, CAAC in 11.10 in 2nd with Briony Curtis (HBT) 3rd in 11.50.      1st MV50 was Ken Rankin (Falkirk Victoria) in 11.16, with a close battle for 2nd and 3rd place between Ian Morrison (Bellahouston H) and Andy Latham (EAC) with Morrison prevaiing by one second, 11.24 to 11.25.  1st MV60 was Martin Veale (u/a) in 12.49.  1st MV70 was George Black (Fife AC) in 14.56, a time which puts him top of the Run Britain rankings for fastest 2 mile time by a MV75 this year.     Phyllis O’Brien (HBT) was 1st FV50 in 13.03 with Jill Swales (Jog Scotland) 2nd in 15.39.  1st FV60 was Linden Nicholson (Lasswade AC) in 14.24.  1st FV70 was Betty Gilchrist (Ferranti AC) in 16.00.   Thanks to everyone for turning out to make the races what they are.

Self Transcendence 2 mile race, The Meadows, Edinburgh Wednesday 9 September 2015

In almost perfect conditions, Murray Strain completed another Trotter triumph at the penultimate Meadows race of the summer.  For the second week running he held off fellow club mate, Patryk Gierjatowicz by one second recording 9.44.  Jonathon Crickmore (Brighton) took third in 11.15, just holding off EAC's Nick Wolverson 11.17.  

Newcomer to Edinburgh, Laura Robertson was a comfortable winner of the ladies race going through the mile in 5.36 . She held her pace well to record 11.17 comfortably ahead of Megan Mowbray (HBT) in 12.00, with Mowbray's club mate, Amelia Hope-Jones, 3rd in 12.38.

There was  great run by first MV50, Dave Blackie  (U/A)  who finished in 5th place overall in a speedy 10.19 from Corstorphine's  Graeme Fletcher 10.57 and EAC's Chris Creegan 11.52.  1st MV60 was Jim Scott, Portobello RC, in a time of 12.19 and 1st MV70 was Willie Murray, also Portobello RC, in a time of 17.35.   Phyllis O'Brien took the FV50 with 13.03.  1st FV70 was Betty Gilchrist (Ferranti AC) in a time of 15.49.   Next week is the last in the series for this year.  Its a 2 miler.   1st MV60 was Jim Scott, Portobello RC, in a time of 12.19 and 1st MV70 was Willie Murray, also Portobello RC, in a time of 17.35.    

Self Transcendence 5k race, Wednesday 2 September 2015

The Meadows Self Transcendence races resumed for a September trio kicking off with a 5  kilometre.
After the first mile loop, the HBT duo of Patryk Gierjatowicz and Murray Strain were together in 5.02,
some 20 seconds ahead of a pack of 6 runners including lead MV50 Mike McQuaid (Falkirk),
Kirstian MacRuary (Corstorphine) and Briony Curtis (HBT) were leading ladies.
 
Strain was just nudging ahead of Gierjatowicz, 10.06 to 10.07 at two miles, with the EAC duo of Nick Wolverson and Leon Johnson in 3rd and 4th (10.42).  MacRuary had edged ahead of Curtis at two miles (12.55).
 
Strain proved the stronger over the final mile and came home in 15.37 to Gierjatowicz in 15.39. Johnson 16.29  won the EAC dual for 3rd and 4th over Wolverson (16.39).  
 
Kirstian MacRuary stretched her lead in the women's race to come home in 18.17 with Curtis finishing second in 18.18.46.  Portobello's Jana Thandrayen took third in 19.07.
 
Mike McQuaid of Falkirk had a great run to finish 8th overall and take the MV50 medal with 17.13 ahead of his club mate Kenny Rankin (18.08) and Andy Latham (18.18). Martin Veale with 20.19 was 1st MV60.  Phyllis O'Brien HBT in 21.12  was 1st FV50 and Lasswade's Linden Nicholson in 22.48 was 1st FV60.
 
There are two more races, both two milers on Wednesday 9th September and Wednesday 16th September.

Self Transcendence 3 x 1 mile relays, Wednesday 22 July 2015, The Meadows, Edinburgh

A record 76 teams entered the 2015 Self Transcendence 3 x 1 mile relays on a breezy, but sunny evening in the Meadow’s Edinburgh.   On lap 1, EAC’s marathon runner, Neil Renault led the way in a time of 4.32 from HBT’s Patryk Gierjatowicz (4.40) with Kirkintilloch’s David Scott 4.46 in 3rd.  Things changed on leg 2 when HBT’s orienteering international Murray Strain clocked a 4.27 (fastest of the night) to bring the Trotters home in 9.07. Carnethy’s James Waldie brought them into 2nd place in a time of 9.27 (4.40 split) with CAAC’s Tom Wilson, 3rd in 9.43.  The positions remained unchanged on the final lap with Ray Ward bringing HBT home in 14.04 (5.57), with Iain Whiteside keeping Carnethy in 2nd place in 14.22 (4.55) with CAAC’s Ally Brockie in 3rd 14.39 (4.56).   In the women’s race, Lana Turnbull brought Lothian home with a 5.39 lap on leg 1 with the 2 EAC women teams and the 2nd Lothian team close behind, (6 seconds separated the first 4 women teams).  Amanda Woodrow’s speedy 5.14  took EAC in the lead on leg 2, 4 secs clear of Lothian, for whom Mhairi Inglis  recorded a 5.24 split. The last lap saw Lothian take the lead and finish in 16.21 thanks to a 5.18 lap from Amanda Campbell with Charlotte Garry bringing EAC home in 16.34 (5.35).  The second EAC team took 3rd in 16.51 with Lothian’s second team 4th in 16.55.   1st FV team  went to the composite team of Yvonne Crilly (Lothian), Sharon Ramage (EAC) and Sue McDowall (Lothian) in a time of 19.26.  Fastest split for FV50 was Yvonne Crilly with 5.37 and Morna Fleming (Carnegie H) was fastest FV60 with 6.57 split.   Portobello led home the mens vets with a time of 16.53 with Willie Jarvie’s  recording the fastest vet 50 of the night with 5.23 and Jim Scott with 5.54 was fastest vet 60 lap on the night. EAC was 2nd MV50 in 17.21    Once again the relays threw up a great spirit of camaraderie and was enjoyed by all.  We hope we worked out all your splits correctly, however if you feel a correction needs to be made, please leave a comment below or send us a mail.   Special thanks to Alex Jackson, Dave Cairns and Ian Beattie for helping to make things run smoothly.

Patryck Gierjatowicz (HBT) had a narrow win at the Self Transcendence 2 mile race in the meadows tonight.  Going through the 1 mile split in 4.55 with Corstorphine's Moray Anderson, he finally proved stronger in the final straight to edge Anderson by 2 seconds 9.55 to 9.57 with Corstorphine’s, Stewart Livingstone taking 3rd in 10.18.

In the women’s race Shona McIntosh HBT led through the mile with Carnethy's Charlotte Morgan a few metres behind.  Mcintosh increased the gap on the second lap to record 11.02 to Morgan's 11.14 with last weeks winner, Rachel Haines (HBT) third with 11.28. Recently turned 50, David Blackie finished in 5th place overall with a speedy 10.34 to take first MV50. Martin Veale continued his streak of MV60 victories in 12.46 and Willie Murray was first MV70 for the second week running. Jill Swales, Jog Scotland was 1st FV50 and Betty Gilchrist first MV70. Next week’s race is our fabulous 3 x 1 mile relays.  As always registration is from 6.30pm, with a slightly later race start of 7.15. Come as a team, or come as an individual and we will find you a team. Perfect conditions led to fast times at the Self Transcendence 2 mile race in Edinburgh’s Meadows, on Wednesday 8 July 2015.  
 
HBT’s Murray Strain led the way at the half way point from Corstorphine’s Dougie Selman, Ross Mathieson (Lasswade) and Neil Renault (EAC).  Strain maintained his pace and increased his lead to win in a speedy 9.10.  Behind him a battle for the minor places evolved with Selman 9.21 just holding off Mathieson 9.23 (home from Uni in the States for the summer)  who in turn held off Renault 9.24.  
 
Rachel Haines (HBT) was a clear winner of the women’s race going through the mile in 5.40 and finished in 13th place overall in 11.14.  Harmony’s Lucy Marshall was 2nd in 12.54 and Portobello’s Jenni Owens was 3rd in 13.01.
1st FV50 was Lorraine Smith (u/a) in 17.07 and 1st FV60 was Lynden Nicholson (Lasswade) in 14.13.
 
John Hynd (Carnegie) was 1st MV50 in 11.37 and Jim Scott (Portobello) was 1st MV60 in 12.30.  Honourable mention for Willie Murray (Portobello) who at 75 years young recorded 18.12 for the 1st MV70.  Willie has been coming to our races for nearly 30 years.

It was a warm sticky summer evening for runners at the Meadows tonight for the Self Transcendence 1 July 5km.
 
After 1 mile Edinburgh AC's Marathon man Neil Renault was tied with Corstorphine's Dougie Selman in 4.55 with Hill Runner Eoin Lennon from Carnethy back in third.  Renault and Selman remained  together at 2 miles reached in 9.55.  Selman then tried to make an effort to get away but had to work hard on the last lap  for the win, prevailing in 15.16, with Renault pushing him all the way with 15.18, Lennon held on for third in 16.16.  Selman tweeted later "Renault forcing me into a serious sprint at the end of my 3x15mins!" A good night’s session indeed.
 
in the women’s race,  Edinburgh AC's Charlotte Garry led the way at the mile which she reached in 5.53 clear of Cath Ferry (EAC ) and Linlithgow's Lynn McGill who were tied at 6.09. Garry pushed on to go through 2 miles in just under 12 minutes and finish a comfortable winner in 18.48 with McGill (20.03) getting the better of Ferry (20.15 on the last lap.
 
Mike McQuaid finishing in 8th place overall  took the MV50 prize in 17,26, with Matin  Veale (20.27) keeping up his streak of MV60 wins.  Jill Swales (Jog Scotland) was 1st FV50 (24.37) with Betty Gilchrist first FV70 (25.18).

Murray Strain, HBT led a tight pack at the front of the Self Transcendence 2 mile at the Meadows on Wednesday 24 June.  Murray in 9.17 just held off Dougie Selman (CAAC) 9.21 and in 3rd place was Neil Renault (EAC ) in 9.35.

The 1st MV50 was David Cheseldine, Sarn Helen in 11.38, ahead of Chris Creegan (EAC) 11.42 and Mike Andrew (Carnethy HR) 11.43.  1st MV60 was Martin Veale (u/a) in 12.35.

1st female and in 15th place overall was Shona McIntosh, (HBT) in 10.50, 2nd was Rachel Haines (HBT) 11.08 and 3rd was Kirsten Maxwell (Gala H) in 11.34.  1st FV50 was Phyllis O’Brien (HBT) in 12.47.  1st FV70 was Betty Gilchrist (Ferranti) in 15.59.

There was a close finish in the latest Self Transcendence race at the Meadows last night. International orienteer Murray Strain (HBT) just held off visitor Nick Hardy (Birchfield) with both runners being give the same time of 4.29. Strain’s club mate Patryk Gierjatowicz took third in 4.41, from Corstorphine’s Steve O’Brien (4.46)

The women’s race saw a clean sweep for the Trotters with marathon girl  Shona McIntosh leading the way home in 5.11 from Georgia Tindley, 5.15 and Rachel Haines 5.16 with Borderer Kirsten Maxwell took 4th in 5.21.

First o/50 was Ferranti’s Paul Caban in 5.38 and Martin Veale took the V/60 medal with 6.01. 

Phylis O’Brien (HBT) was first lady o/50 in 6.12.

A perfect summer evening in the Meadows, complete with barbecues and smoke saw Patryk Gierjatowicz, HBT win the 5k in 15.25 a clear winner ahead of Dean Whiteford, Lauderdale Limpers, 17.07 and Ross Murray, EAC in 17.09.

The male vets came in 6, 7 and 8th place.   1st male vet 50 was Colin Feechan, Ronhill Cambuslang in 17.27 just ahead of Mike McQuaid, 17.36 and Ken Rankin, 17.45 both Falkirk Victoria.  1st male vet 60 was Martine Veale, u/a in 20.15.

Rachel Haines, HBT was 1st female in 17.55 placing 11th overall.  2nd F was Charlotte Garry, Jog Scotland in 19.29 and 3rd F was Cath Ferry, EAC in 19.45.

1st FV50 was Phyllis O'Brien, HBT in 21.01 and 1st FV 70 was Betty Gilchrist, Ferranti in 25.16.

Next week's race is 1 mile.

Dougie Selman, CAAC, was the clear winner of the Self Transcendence 1 mile race in the Meadows on 20 May 2015 in 4.34 in ideal conditions.  Coming in 2nd was Sean Calder, EAC, 4.55 just holding off Lasswade's Matthew Smith (4.57).

Fife's AC Jenny Tan led the women home finishing 8th place overall in 5.10, one of the fastest miles (by a woman) seen in the Meadows for a long time.  2nd female was Shona McIntosh, HBT, in 5.19 ahead of Edel Reilly, Jog Scotland, who just held off Lyndsey Fraser, EAC both in 5.31.

1st MV50 was Ken Rankin, Falkirk Victoria, in 5.12.  1st MV60 was Martin Veale, 5.58.

1st FV50 was Jill Swales, Jog Scotland in 7.31. 1st FV70 was Betty Gilchrist, Ferranti in 7.53.

Calum McKenzie (Corstorphine AAC) was  a clear winner of the second Self Transcendence race of the  summer held in the Meadows, Edinburgh.

Leading from the off he recorded 9.38 well clear of the  HBT duo of Patryk Geirjatowicz 10.08 and Dave Ward 10.34 2nd and 3rd. 

Coming home in 4th place, 3 days after his 50th birthday, was Dave Blackie recording an excellent 10.42 to take the vet 50 medal.   In the women's race Rachel Haines (11.20)  HBT was comfortably clear of  clubmate Claire Ward (11.38 ) with 3rd place going to Edel Reilly(Jog scotland)  in 11.53. Honourable mention to Paul Forbes, the former Commonwealth Games 800m runner, ( pb 1.45. 66 ) obviously still enjoying his running.

The first Self Transcendence race of the summer saw international orienteer, Murray Strain HBT cruise to victory.  He went through the mile mark in 4.57 closely followed by Craig Campbell, Edinburgh Uni Hare & Hounds and Patryk Gierjatowicz, HBT.  Strain finished 2 miles in 9.43 with Campbell, 9.58 just holding off Gierjatowicz in 10.00.

Sarah Douglas, Edinburgh Uni Hare & Hounds was a clear winner of the women's race finishing in 18th position overall in 11.30 well clear of Edel Reilly, U/A 12.15 with HBT's Amelia Hope-Jones in 3rd (12.24) ahead of her clubmate Briony Curtis (12.29).

Evergreen Ken Rankin, Falkirk Vic was 1st MV50 in 15th place overall in 11.18.  1st MV60 was Martin Veale, u/a in 12.45.

The women's veteran winners were Jill Swales, Jog Scotland 1stV50 in 15.39, Linden Nicholson, Lasswade 1st FV60 in 14.42 and Betty Gilchrist, Ferranti 1st FV70 in 16.35.
