A record 61 teams took part in the annual 3 x 1 mile relays at the Meadows, Edinburg on Wednesday 29 july 09. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun!
Special mentions to:

Dave Cairns and Alex Jackson who helped with the results.

Neil Renault who we realised after late night scrutiny of the results actually ran the fastest lap in 4.24 a second ahead of Ross Houston who was credited the fastest lap at the prize giving. Apologies to you Neil!

Apology also to Murray Strain who was the 3^rd fastest lap.

(the perils of trying to work out splits in a hurry!)

Dave Wright who ran legs 1 and 2 for different teams and then pushed his wee son Innes in the buggy on the last lap before letting him loose to sprint over the last few metres in true trotter fashion!

In fact special mention to everyone who turned up for creating such a wonderful enthusiastic atmosphere! Oh and final special mention to the rain- who thankfully didn't turn up!!!

Age 56, Vienna Austria (26th fastest all-time, 2 finishes)

A veteran ultra runner whose career spans 20 years, Surasa has completed over 20 multidays. Her best for 3100 miles is 50 days+04:57:24. She is the women’s world record holder for 1000 km, 700 miles, and 1300 miles, and has never lost to another woman in her multi-day racing career.

Last year Kaneenika dominated the Ten Day Race with 727 miles, her second women’s course record. She has won the women’s crown in that event five times, including an overall victory. In twenty years of running, Kaneenika has completed fifteen multidays and 32 ultras. Her bests include 443 miles for six days, 727 miles in 10 days, and 1000 miles in 15 days, 19 hours.

One of the world’s best endurance runners, Ashprihanal has run 25 multidays in the last 18 years. He is an 12-time finisher of the 3100 Mile Race, the world’s longest footrace. He has finished first seven times, and is ranked second in the world behind the indomitable Madhupran Wolfgang Schwerk.

Last year Vasu ran a personal best to finish third, reaching 3100 miles in 47 days +04:24:27. In 2013 he finished first for the 3100 miler. He has three finishes to his credit. He is now ranked 14th all-time for 3100 miles. He is studying to become a certified personal trainer.

Bobby Quinn (Kilbarchan), led at the mile in 4.55 from Ray Ward (HBT) and Owain Bristow (Edinburgh AC).

Ward, who had run the 28 mile Lharig Ghru race at the weekend, hung onto Quinn on the second lap, but Quinn, the former Scottish Cross Country champion and GB international proved the stronger to finish in 9.50 and Owain Bristow hung on for 3^rd place.

Kenny Rankin (Falkirk Vic) scored another vet 50 victory in a time of 11.03 well ahead of Dunbar's Steve Paterson. Debbie Macdonald was a popular winner of the women's race in 14.18 while Mary Pattison (Dunbar) won the 1^st FV50 medal in 15.16.

GB Athletics Official of the Year, Alex Jackson (Ferranti), a Meadows regular for many years, took the MV60 medal in 14.48.

Age 50, Vinnitsa, Ukraine (9th fastest all-time, 2 finishes)

Yuri has finished the 3100 twice, with a second place finish of 46 days+14 hours, a personal best by over four days. He is a four-time winner of the 10 Day Race, and has finished 12 multidays in 13 years of running. He works as a plumber in Vinnitsa.

This week's 2 mile race was won by Dougie Selman (Corstorphine) who led from the start, passing the mile in 4.43 well ahead of clubmate Scott Pilkington, and the Trotter trio of Murray Strain, Craig McBurney and Steve Cairns, along with Border Harrier, Colin Welsh (4.49). Dougie covered the second mile 5 secs slower to finish first in 9.26.

Jill Knowles of the Scottish Prison Service was a clear winner of the women's race passing the mile in 5.32 to finish in 11.26.

Kenny Rankin (what can we say!) for the fourth week running was a clear winner of the male vet 50 race (10.47).

Special mention: to Alan Gordon (HBT) for winning his first male vet 60 medal who was just 1 sec ahead of the next male vet 60 Alex Jackson (Ferranti).

HOUSTON HAS NO PROBLEM AS HE ROCKETS TO VICTORY !!!!!!

At the mile, reached in 4.48, there was a pack of 4 runners including the winners of the last 2 weeks (Ray Ward and Craig McBurney) who were joined by Ross Houston (who ran London Marathon in 2.31) and track runner Scott Pilkington.

The women were led through the mile by Eilidh Wardlaw closely followed by her HBT clubmates, Shona McIntosh and Sula Young. (Shona also ran London Marathon in 2:56:35)

Houston ran a very strong second mile to win in 9.29 ahead of Ward and McBurney. Houston's training partner, Ross Milne took 7^th place having had a great debut marathon in London in a time of 2.29.

Ken Rankin, Falkirk Victoria made it 3 wins in a row in the male vet 50 category with a time of 11.12.

Eilidh Wardlaw maintained her lead to finish in 11.33 in a guddle of Trotters which included the first 3 women!

Graham Bennison from Fife was 1^st male 60 in a time of 14.28 ahead of Norman Gould, HBT 15.29.

With 87 runners finishing , the officials were psyching themselves up for a frantic 2 minutes scribbling!

SPECIAL MENTION -to Isobel Knox, having won the Scottish 50k Championship on Sunday showed no ill effects finishing 6^th female in 12.36.

SPECIAL SPECIAL MENTION to Duncan Baker who celebrated his birthday this week and bought muffins for all the runners for a post race treat! THANK YOU DUNCAN!
