"The perfect beginner's triathlon"

SUPPORTERS WELCOME. Supporters will be able to watch the swim from poolside seating, and the Esplanade by the sea.
ADVICE & GUIDANCE. Monthly emails of beginner's tips and advice from the race organisers will make sure you are well prepared.
FINISHER'S MEMENTO & TEE. At the finish, every finisher will receive an event tee-shirt and memento.

About the event

Our Try-a-Tri event is tailor-made for beginners, especially first-timers, at the sport of triathlon. With manageable distances and the combination of a pool swim and a flat run course, the Self-Transcendence Somerset Try-a-Tri is a great way to get a taste of the UK's fastest growing endurance sport. The 2016 Try-a-Tri took place on 29 May 2016 - you can see photos of the event in our Races GalleryThe Try-a-Tri will next take place in May 2017 and online entries will open at Entry Central later this year. Our sponsors are Bristol Bike Centre who provide fantastic mechanical support and Run and Become, the world-famous Specialist Running Shop. We are also able to offer a limited number of free entries to those able and willing to bring helpers to the race who can act as marshals at the swimming pool & finish line - a great way for your supporters, friends or family to be a part of the event and save you the entry fee! Contact the organisers for details.  Although aimed at novices, the Try-a-Tri is also a perfect "practice race" for anyone planning to do the DB-Max Portishead Triathlon a few weeks later, or the Bristol Triathlon - the region's flagship multisport event.

About the Triathlon

The 3 Stages

Swim - 264m - 8 lengths of Portishead's heated, open-air pool. A stunning sea-front location for that "open water" feel without having to tackle cold water, or the need for a wetsuit.

Bike - 17k - A varied route on minor roads between Portishead Esplanade and Clevedon including the hills on Nore Road and Valley Road. Any style of bike can be used (so long as it's roadworthy, standard size and has working gears/brakes ie. not a "fixie" or fixed-gear bike).

Run - 4k - A flat, easy, three-lap circuit of Portishead's Lake Grounds.

Further info

Youth entrants (anyone who will be aged 15+ at the end of 2016) are welcome, but the course is not suitable for younger triathletes (who are not permitted to compete on public roads).

This event is held under British Triathlon Rules.

Some words of inspiration.....

Will permeate your mind and heart
Even after your success or failure
Is long forgotten."
