"The perfect beginner's triathlon"
At Portishead Open Air Pool, The Esplanade, Portishead, Somerset, BS20 7HD. If you have entered the race, click the link below for your raceday information:
VIEW: ONLINE RESULTS FOR 2012

SWIM: 264m - 8 lengths of Portishead's heated, open-air pool. A stunning sea-front location for that "open water" feel without having to tackle cold water, or the need for a wetsuit. See 2012 race gallery.

BIKE: 17k - A varied route on minor roads between Portishead Esplanade and Clevedon. Any style of bike can be used (so long as it's roadworthy). Great sea views, and plenty of marshals.
RUN: 4k - A flat, easy, three-lap circuit of Portishead's Lake Grounds.
MADE FOR BEGINNERS. Our Try-a-Tri event is tailor-made for beginners, especially first-timers at the sport of triathlon. With manageable distances and the combination of a pool swim and a flat run course, the Self-Transcendence Somerset Try-a-Tri is a great way to get a taste of the UK's fastest growing endurance sport. It's also a perfect "practice race" for anyone planning to do the DB-Max Portishead Triathlon a few weeks later, or the Bristol Triathlon - the region's flagship multisport event.
Youth entrants (anyone who will be aged 15+ at the end of 2013) are welcome, but the course is not suitable for younger triathletes (who are not permitted to compete on public roads).
PLENTY OF SPACE! We are limiting entry to 125 athletes, to keep the transition area and the course itself from becoming crowded. The pool will be divided into just five lanes so there will be plenty of room in the pool too, with a maximum of five swimmers per lane at any one time. You don't have to swim "freestyle" - breaststroke is fine and all participants will be put in a lane with others of similar swimming speed.
FINISHER'S TROPHY & TEE. Every finisher will receive an event tee-shirt and be presented with a finisher's trophy as soon as they complete the event. All this is included in the entry fee, and photographs will be provided (mid-course shots as well as finish photos) free of charge.
SUPPORTERS WELCOME. Supporters will be able to watch the swim from poolside seating, and the Esplanade itself provides a great view of the start/finish of both the bike and run courses. Admission to the poolside area is free (from 7.30am to 9.30am) for supporters and spectators accompanying athletes on the day. There is ample free parking on Esplanade Road and a choice of cafes within 400m of the start.
ADVICE & GUIDANCE. Monthly emails of beginner's tips and advice from the race organisers will make sure you are well prepared on the day. If there's anything you need to know to help you train or prepare for the event, we'll be there to provide the answers.
Entry is available at ENTRY CENTRAL. If you need to enter by post, text your address to 07 70 241 07 97 with the words "tri entry form" and we'll post you a paper application.
