Our club's founder, Sri Chinmoy, will forever be associated with the words "Self-Transcendence". In his own words:

"We compete not for the sake of defeating others, but in order to bring forward our own capacity. Our best capacity comes forward only when there are other people around us. They inspire us to bring forward our utmost capacity, and we inspire them to bring forward theirs. That is why we have competitive sports. The seeker-athlete never tries to compete with others, but only tries to transcend his own capacity."

This is the philosophy behind all our races, in the UK and throughout the world, from 1 mile to 3100 miles!

Self-Transcendence is all about pushing beyond our self-imposed limits and discovering what we are truly capable of. The Sri Chinmoy AC is primarily a running club, but members also take part in cycling, swimming and multisport events - all motivated by the inspirational philosophy of our founder Sri Chinmoy - his writings on Self-Transcendence can be found in our RESOURCES section.
