Although our busy season of races is well under way, keeping the whole club occupied marshalling & organising events, plenty of team members have also found time to get out and run for Sri Chinmoy AC. On the ultradistance front, Markfrom Bristol ran his first Barry 40, a 161 lap track race - this was his first ultra and it seems to have left him with lots of enthusiasm to take on even greater distances - read his report here. Tarit, our ultradistance veteran, stepped up to a team management role with the GB squad in Belgium recently, but he has no intention of hanging up his shoes - he ran the Draycote 35, our Invitational Marathon and the Lochaber marathon in the space of a few weeks.  Also in the Invitational Marathon in April were Garga from Bristol and Bhauliya and Dhavala from Edinburgh. The event was held in Queens, NY, and drew runners from Sri Chinmoy clubs all over the world.

Other international events included a marathon on the anniversary of Sri Chinmoy's marathon PB which he ran at Chico, USA, some 30 years ago. A small race was taking place in New York to celebrate this anniversary and an invitation went out to team members all over the world to join in by running the 26.2 mile distance in their home city.

Here in the UK Steve and Clifford ran the Cambridge Boundary marathon to celebrate, while Hita and Garga both clocked up 26.2 mile runs on the day itself. Penny and Helena joined in by running the half marathon course at the Boundary Run. Pics above show Steve, Penny & Helena on the boundary run course in Cambridge, and below are Garga starting his run at 4am in Cardiff and Clifford running the full Boundary Marathon (his first!).

Because of the events we organise in April over in New York, we rarely get to enter runners in the London Marathon, but this year we were represented by both Mark and Hita, who have written some excellent race reports.

The Edinburgh marathon saw a relay team including Dhavala, Bhauliya and Kokila complete the 26.2 mile course in 3 hours 20 minutes - Kokila had the time of her life  running strongly over the finish line of a big city marathon at her 10k pace as she completed the final leg! Steve, meanwhile, ran a fantastic race to cross the line in 3.07 - that's the best any of the Sri Chinmoy AC boys has run for some time - he and Mark will both be trying to improve on their spring marathon times when our August "Self-Transcendence Marathon" comes around.

Garga's project of running 40 races at the age of 40 came to its conclusion with two weeks to spare when he completed the Marshman Half Ironman Triathlon in May. Across the water, French team member Adelino is working on completing 42 marathons at the age of 42, and has so far clocked up 33!

A quick google search on team members tells me that Bhauliya ran the Loch Ness Marathon in 3.46, while Dhavala took part in the Seven Hills Race in Edinburgh, the Black Rock 5 and a Multiterrain Race in Forfar. Tarit also did the Black Rock 5 and the Rigg Race, and doubtless many others!

One of the highlights of the season though had to be our second "joyathlon" which was held in Somerset in late May and organised by Garga and Kokila. This was a "novice triathlon" day where over 30 club members got together to compete a pool swim and a cycle time-trial before all meeting up for a great two mile race on a railway path near Cheddar. Some of the performances were outstanding, notably Nurari (our lady winner) and Asidhari who was visiting the UK that week and came a close second overall. Beccy from Cardiff and Bithika from Cambridge also finished strongly as did Garga and Artur. A full set of results and a photo gallery tell the story. Pictured above are Bithika enjoying the start of the bike section and Marek (and others) on the 2 mile run.

Last bit of news is that Abichal is going to give this site a makeover after the internet chaps have migrated it onto a new platform (I know what that means, honestly) so in future we hope it will be easier to find what you are looking for. Once the job is completed, Abichal heads to Sweden for a six day race, so hopefully we'll have a report from that along with August marathons and Ironman Triathlons in the September team news.

Ciao for now!
